How your real profit is calculated
With cash on delivery, an order becomes money only when it’s delivered and paid for. So the calculator measures your profitability by following 100 orders all the way through, and counts each cost where it actually happens:
Real profit = cash collected from delivered orders − their product cost − shipping on delivered orders and on returns − ad spend on all 100 orders − fees.
It doesn’t count the product on returns (with Dropi it goes back to the supplier) or shipping on canceled orders (they never left). It does count ad spend on all of them: the ad was paid for even if the order never arrived.
That’s why your store and Meta almost never match your own math: they see a sale for every order that comes in. In the example, the store sees $2,990.00; you collect $1,906.13 and keep $169.25.

How do you calculate profit in cash-on-delivery dropshipping?
From what you actually get paid: the cash collected from delivered orders, minus the product cost, shipping on delivered orders and on returns, the ad spend on every order (canceled and returned ones too) and fees. That’s why your real profit is almost always lower than what your store shows.
What is delivery rate in COD dropshipping?
The percentage of shipped orders that get delivered and paid for. If you ship 100 and 75 are delivered, your delivery rate is 75%. The other 25 come back: you pay their shipping and their ads, and collect nothing.
What is a good delivery rate?
It depends on the product, the city and the carrier. As an industry reference in Colombia: without confirming orders, delivery usually lands between 45% and 65%; with confirmation, between 70% and 85%.
How much can I spend on ads per order?
What the calculator shows as “Max ad cost per order”: the cost per order at which your profit hits zero. If you pay more, on average you lose money on every order, even when your store says you made a sale.
How much does a returned order cost?
The shipping you’re charged for that order plus the ad spend it took to get it. In Colombia, Dropi usually deducts the original shipping fee when an order comes back; in other countries the rule depends on the carrier.
Why do canceled orders count?
Because the ad was already paid for: an order canceled before shipping costs no shipping, but it did cost the ad spend that brought it in.
How much should I sell my product for?
At least the “Minimum selling price” the calculator gives you from your costs, your ad spend and your delivery rate. Above that price, you start making money.
Is cash-on-delivery dropshipping profitable?
It can be, and it almost always comes down to your delivery rate: with the same costs, raising your delivery rate by 10 points (say, from 75% to 85%) can be the difference between losing and making money. Try it with your numbers.
